Spring Waterfalls of the Finger Lakes (with Mark Bowie)
Holidy Inn Ithaca Downtown, Ithaca, NY
June 10-13, 2010
Spring in the Finger Lakes region of Central New York is a particularly beautiful time of year with abundant water flowing in the waterfalls highlighted by the fresh, lime-green foliage of the season. After an initial orientation session on Thursday night, we will spend portions of three days exploring and photographing some of the most spectacular waterfalls in the region around Ithaca and Watkins Glen, NY including Taughannock Falls, Robert H. Treman, and Watkins Glen State Parks. Individual field instruction will be provided as well as indoor instructional sessions and critiques. In the field instruction, we will emphasize the importance of effective composition and proper exposure. Techniques for combining multiple exposures of the same scene will be covered in detail in the indoor sessions along with digital workflow techniques using Lightroom and Photoshop. Olympic National Park Tour
Port Angeles and Forks, WA
August 8-14, 2010
Imagine a landscape that contains magical temperate rainforests covered with ferns and hanging mosses, wild ocean beaches with mysterious sea stacks, and alpine meadows surrounded by glaciated mountain peaks, all easily accessible within the same park! Far from an impossible dream, this is a description of Olympic National Park in Washington state, which was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. Here the magnificent Olympic rainforest reaches its pinnacle and has a living biomass which may be the highest anywhere in the world. The park also includes the longest undeveloped coast in the contiguous United States with over 60 miles of wilderness coastline. We will spend three nights in Port Angeles, the gateway to the park. Here we will visit Hurricane Ridge, spectacular Crescent Lake, and Sol Duc and Marymere Falls. A possible sunset excursion to the summit of Blue Mountain will provide unmatched views over Port Angeles and the Strait of Juan de Fuca as well as into the heart of the Olympic Mountains. The final two nights will be spent in Forks, WA which provides easy access to the famous Hoh Rainforest, Rialto Beach, and Second Beach. Instructor Joe LeFevre has made numerous photography trips to the Olympic Peninsula over the past 30 years and knows the park well. The incredible diversity offers unparalleled opportunities for creative outdoor photography. Please join us for an unforgettable week of photography on the Olympic Peninsula!
